Call of Duty Modern Warfare – What is a DMR?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare was released recently on October 25, 2019. Like the other games in the series, there is no shortage of weapon types in Modern Warfare, from pistols to SMGs to assault rifles to shotguns. Players have already been grinding the game hard, trying to rack up various weapon achievements to show off their proficiency.

One of the challenges is the Expert Gunsmith Challenge, which requires you to rack up 70 kills with 5 attachments on a DMR.

This has led to some confusion. What weapons in Modern Warfare are actually classified as a DMR? Of the DMR weapons, why don’t they have 5 attachment slots?

First off, it may be helpful to know that DMR stands for Designated Marksman Rifle. To complete the challenge, you’ll want to use guns that are labeled as Marksman Rifles.

The guns that qualify as DMRs include:

  • EBR-14
  • Kar98k
  • MK2
  • And surprisingly, the HDR Sniper

When you first start using the DMRs, you’ll see they won’t have 5 attachment slots. That’s because you unlock them as you level up the weapon. Once you hit level 13 with the weapon, all 5 attachments will be unlocked.

Keep in mind that the perk slot doesn’t count as an attachment, so run it without a perk to complete the challenge.

As for which DMR is best to complete the Expert Gunsmith Challenge, ultimately it’ll depend on your playstyle and preference.

The EBR-14 is extremely high damage, allowing you to kill someone in two direct shots or one headshot. But it comes at the expense of heavy recoil and terrible flinch.

The Kar98k and MK2 weapons typically kill in one shot if you’re in midrange and two for extreme range. However, they’re both pretty slow and are a little unreliable when it comes to close range combat.

The HDR is essentially equivalent to the .50 caliber sniper rifle. Like other sniper rifles, it takes a long time to scope after sprinting, so it’s best used if you have high ground and good line of sight.

Hopefully this article helps clarify which guns in Modern Warfare are DMRs and how you can complete the Expert Gunsmith Challenge with them.
